Heavy Industrial Area, Tema - Ghana
The purpose of this Division is to maintain Machinery and other equipment in the Production Unit for efficiency, safety, availability, and reliability so that they can achieve set production targets.
It also ensures that maintenance works either planned or unplanned (emergencies) are always completed promptly and cost-effectively.
The following departments make up the division:
The IWS is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing, and maintaining equipment that is used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes. These control systems, machinery, and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes. These control systems, machinery, and processes can be found in the Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking unit, Crude Distillation Unit, Utilities, Movement of product, Loading Gantry Waster Treatment unit, and Laboratory.
These activities include:
The department ensures that all instruments and control systems are in good condition for the plants and equipment to operate within defined parameters to produce consistent and quality output.
The Mechanical Works Department is divided into two main sections: Rotating Equipment and Stationary Equipment Section.
The Rotating Equipment Section has the responsibility of ensuring that all rotating equipment in the plant is in good working condition. Major equipment that falls under this section are Compressors, Steam Turbines, Pumps, Mobile Cranes, Forklifts, Tractors, and excavators.
The Section is also in charge of the machine shop which comprises installed milling, drilling, lather, shaping, and grinding machines. The section supports all the departments within the Maintenance Division in machining and fabrication works.
This Section is responsible for the Installation, Testing, Commissioning, Repairs and Maintenance of equipment such as Boilers, Heat Recovery Systems, Reactor and Regenerator, Pipelines, Valves, Columns, Condensers and Ejectors.
It also undertakes maintenance of the Heat Exchangers, Storage Tanks, Air Fin Coolers, Furnace, Electrostatic Precipitator, Catalyst Cooler, Cooling Tower and Vessels.
Its primary responsibilities include repairing, maintaining, installing, testing, modifying, and designing electrical machinery and equipment across the refinery, harbour, and Oil Jetty and also the daily visual inspections ensure proper equipment function.
It also collaborates with the Inspection department for condition-based maintenance (CBM), aiming to enhance reliability and availability through reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and asset management (AM) concepts.
It oversees critical equipment such as power transformers, steam turbine generators, boilers, metal-clad switchgear, uninterruptible power supply units, capacitor banks, protection relays, electrical control panels, motor control switchgear, lighting systems, and telephone systems.
Additionally, it manages all building-related electrical works in coordination with the Estates officer and collaborates with the project department to execute new projects, including tasks like constructing electrical substations and commissioning diesel engines.
The department assists the Procurement and Stores departments by specifying equipment requirements and evaluating technical aspects for critical spare parts.
This department plans, schedules, monitors, and administers work orders for routine and plant shutdown maintenance. That is to ensure the sustainability, efficiency, and reliability of the plant and facility involved.
The department is made up of seven (7) units. They are
The department undertakes the measurements and prepares sketches for the preparation of Tender documents for third-party works. Additionally, it handles the maintenance of roads and culverts within the bonded area and the Refinery frontage.
This Unit constructs buildings and other concrete structures by specifications and drawings, installs and maintains refractory works in Boilers, Furnaces, regenerators and reactors, etc., and maintains industrial buildings and office buildings.
The Unit executes carpentry, joinery and cabinetmaking works as well as provision of formworks for casting of concrete and refractory works, and maintains industrial buildings, office buildings and furniture in terms of woodwork.
The Unit’s responsibility is to mount scaffolds for use in the execution of works, Sandblast and paint storage tanks and general installations, prepare, and paint industrial, office, residential buildings, processing plants & equipment. Additionally, it takes measurements and prepares sketches for the preparation of Tender documents for third-party works.
The Unit is responsible for insulating and cladding specific pipelines and equipment for the prevention/ reduction of heat loss, taking measurements, and preparing sketches for the preparation of Tender documents for third-party works.
This Unit installs and maintains sanitary installations and engineering works both within the Refinery and residential accommodation (e.g. Washrooms). It also ensures measurements are taken and prepares sketches for the preparation of Tender documents for third-party works.
This Unit undertakes the cleaning of storage tanks and recovers oil spills and leakages, keeps the environs of processing plants clean by desilting open and underground drains and weeding around same as well as the harbour pipelines, TOR residential areas, and lands.
