Environmental Policy

Policy Statement

The Mission of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Limited is to provide clean energy products to power Ghana’s economic growth in an environmentally sustainable manner. TOR is committed to implementing pollution prevention and mitigation measures aimed at avoidance, minimisation, restoration and offset as it refines crude oil into clean energy products and other related operations. TOR shall strive to continually improve on its environmental performance and ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Policy Objectives &Targets

  1. Ensure that raw materials, production chemicals, utilities and production inputs are used efficiently.
  2. Comply with Ghana Standards on air emissions, wastewater discharges, noise and air quality:
    • Ghana Standard GS 1212:2019 (Environmental Protection-Requirements for Effluent Discharge)
    • Ghana Standard GS 1236: 2019 (Environment and Health Protection- Requirements for Ambient Air Quality and Point Source/Stack Emissions)
    • Ghana Standard GS 1222: 2018 (Health Protection – Requirements for Ambient Noise Control)
    • Ghana Standard GS 1219: 2018 (Environment and Health Protection – Requirements for Motor Vehicle Emissions)
    • Ghana Standard GS 1253: 2018 (Acoustics – Guide for Measurement of Outdoor A-Weighted Sound Levels)
  3. Ensure efficient and sound management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  4. Ensure effective primary, secondary and tertiary containment of hazardous materials.
  5. Ensure compliance with all HSE legal and administrative requirements including monitoring and reporting.
  6. Ensure all operations and processes are based on Standard Operating Procedures.
  7. Ensure emergency preparedness and response systems are in place and effective.
  8. Provide training and re-training of personnel to ensure competence.
